Matt Turner, who has served on the Castro Valley Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) since April 2011, will resign from the MAC effective February 1, 2015 to work for Alameda County Supervisor Nate Miley.

Upon Turner’s resignation, the Board of Supervisors will need to confirm Miley’s appointment and/or reappointment of two people to the MAC. John Ryzanych, whose appointment expired on August 1, 2014, may continue to serve on the MAC, per the Castro Valley MAC by-laws, until he is reappointed or a new member is appointed.

The Castro Valley MAC is an appointed body that advises the Board of Supervisors on “Land Use” and general government issues.

Under California Government Code Section 31010, the State law that established the legal framework for municipal advisory councils, members may be chosen “by election or appointment.” The 1981 Board of Supervisors resolution that established the Castro Valley MAC specifies that members will be appointed.

The next MAC Land Use meeting is January 12, 2015 at 6:00 p.m at the Castro Valley Library.
