2016 General Election: Castro Valley Candidate Statements

Education

Election Day is Tuesday, November 8, 2016, and we have reached out to candidates for local office to hear more about their vision for Castro Valley.

We decided to focus on those government agencies that have an impact on everyday Castro Valley life: Castro Valley Unified School District, Castro Valley Sanitary District, and BART.

For each board and office, we are listing the statements from the candidates who replied in alphabetical order.

Castro Valley Sanitary District Board of Directors

We asked the four candidates competing for three spots on the Castro Valley Sanitary District (CVSan) Board of Directors to answer the following in 700 words or less:

What do you view as the biggest challenge facing CV San now, and how will you work to address it in the next four years? How does CV San impact Castro Valley, and how will you support a working partnership between your agency and the community? Finally, please address increased connection fees for residences and businesses. Are costs for CV San going up at the same rate, and are there new costs that were not anticipated? If so, what changed?

Castro Valley Unified School District Board of Education

We asked the five candidates competing for three spots on the Castro Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) Board of Directors to answer the following question in 700 words or less:

What do you view as the biggest challenge (or challenges) facing CVUSD now, and how will you work to address it (them) in the next four years?

BART Board District 5

We asked the two candidates running for the BART Board District 5 seat to answer the following question in 700 words or less:

What do you view as the biggest challenge (or challenges) facing BART now, and how will you work to address it (them) in the next four years? How does BART impact Castro Valley, and how will you promote collaboration to support a working partnership between BART and Castro Valley?

The League of Women Voters of the Eden Area hosted a candidate forum, featuring the CVUSD and CVSan board candidates, from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm on Tuesday, October 18 at the Castro Valley Library (3600 Norbridge Avenue in Castro Valley).

We streamed the audio for both forums on our Mixlr stream, and they are available:
